PelviX Insights on Core Muscle Groups

About this Case Study

This case study provides an example for organizations in the health and fitness industry seeking to better understand professional attitudes toward innovative training solutions. If you are in the fitness or wellness sector exploring ways to address underrepresented aspects of fitness, this case study is for you.

This case study focused on evaluating gym professionals’ awareness of pelvic floor muscles, their perceptions of incorporating pelvic floor training, and the potential for introducing targeted solutions. The insights supported the rebranding strategy for PelviX, formerly known as PonteMed.

Summary

PelviX sought to understand gym professionals’ awareness of and attitudes toward pelvic floor training as part of comprehensive core muscle development. This study evaluated how fitness facilities currently approach pelvic floor health, the receptivity to targeted solutions, and the potential benefits members perceive from such innovations.

Here’s the Challenge

Before rebranding as PelviX, PonteMed faced the challenge of identifying gaps in gym professionals’ awareness and practices regarding pelvic floor training. They needed insights into how pelvic floor health was currently being addressed and how a targeted solution might be received.

Here’s the Idea

We designed a survey to explore:

  • Professionals’ familiarity with pelvic floor training (only 32.84% reported being “very familiar”).
  • Current methods used to incorporate pelvic floor exercises, including core-specific classes and general guidance.
  • Receptiveness to solutions focusing on pelvic floor health and the benefits perceived by gym members.

The survey also explored branding considerations for potential devices or solutions, such as ease of use, educational resources, and compatibility with existing routines.

Here’s the Execution

A quantitative survey was conducted with 555 respondents, of whom 201 had professional experience in gyms or fitness studios. Key components included:

  • Assessing the importance of pelvic floor training as part of core training.
  • Evaluating current practices around specific pelvic floor exercises.
  • Measuring receptivity to targeted solutions for pelvic floor muscles

The survey ensured representation from diverse roles, including trainers, managers, and gym owners.

Here’s the Positive Outcome

Two key findings provided actionable insights:

  1. Awareness and Education: While 58.21% of gym professionals considered core muscle training “very important,” only 32.84% were “very familiar” with pelvic floor training, highlighting an opportunity for education and advocacy.
  2. Member Goals: Core strength and stability were identified as the top goal (70.15%), followed by improved bladder control (46.77%) and postpartum recovery (34.83%), indicating strong alignment with PelviX’s mission.

Applications to Business Objectives

The findings empower PelviX to:

  • Develop educational materials that highlight the importance of pelvic floor training as part of overall core health.
  • Design products emphasizing ease of use, compatibility with existing workouts, and proven outcomes to meet gym professionals’ preferences.
  • Position pelvic floor training as a necessary component for achieving core strength, injury prevention, and improved quality of life, aligning with members’ fitness goals.
